Practice-Based Research Project, 2026
Plasticity is a practice-based choreographic research project investigating how the body reorganizes perception and movement through direct encounters with ice and its changing physical state.
The research began by approaching the body as an active subject and ice as an external material. Through repeated encounters, however, this distinction became increasingly unstable. As ice melts, changes in temperature, friction, weight, and stability continuously reshape bodily sensation, balance, and movement. The body shifts from using the material to being conditioned by it.
Rather than choreographing movement in advance, Plasticity approaches choreography as something that emerges through changing physical conditions. It asks whether materiality and corporeality can truly be understood as separate—or whether movement itself emerges through their encounter.
This research later developed into the publication Open Scores for Body and Ice.
